The Craft Store Can Be Fun

When you walk into a craft store, you might already know exactly what items you are there for.  You might hunt those items down, grab them, take them to the register and pay for them, all in less than five minutes.  If that's true then good for you!  You are probably an experienced craft person.  You are quick to get in and out and back to work.

On the other hand, when you walk into a craft store, you might be the type who freezes for just an instant.  You are bombarded by so many colors, shapes and textures that you are overwhelmed.  For just an instant you have no idea where to begin.  It can be an incredibly disorienting feeling.

The good news is that your craft store experience can be fun!  While all the choices may seem overwhelming at first, they're also interesting.  There are such a wide variety of options that just looking around in a craft store is enough to get your creative juices flowing!

The first thing to do, before you enter the craft store, is to know how much money you are prepared to spend.  Even if you don’t know exactly what item you want to buy, if you go in with a budget in mind, you will have some control over how much time and money you spend in the craft store.  That way you will not be as tempted to impulsively buy everything in sight.

Another thing you should keep in mind in a craft store is that the first fun thing you see is not the only fun thing there is.  Take a few minutes and explore your options.  Also, remember that the craft store probably gets new items in a few times a week.  Even if you've been there before, don't assume that everything is exactly the same all the time.  Yes, you may have come in with a mission, but you can still come away from your craft store shopping experience with some new ideas.

While the sheer number of items in a craft store can seem overwhelming, it's also a great asset.  If you are an experienced crafter then you’ve probably been to department stores looking for materials and equipment and been disappointed more than once.  Crafts at a department store are generally cheaper than at a specialty craft store, but you get what you pay for.  A specialty craft store has a much wider variety of items.  It also usually has a much more knowledgeable staff.  They can help you find even the most obscure craft items.

Many times a specialty craft store worker will even go out of their way to walk across the store with you and show you an item.  A department store worker is likely to tell you that the item you are looking for is "in aisle ten" without even looking up from what they are doing.

Whether you are a skilled craft shopper or you are brand new to the crafting experience, everyone can have great fun in a craft store!
