A Beginner's Guide To Craft Fairs

Are you just starting out in the world of craft fairs?  Maybe you've been making crafts as a hobby for years, but suddenly you’ve been considering putting your items in craft fairs.  If that's the case, there are some things that you should know before you begin.

The first thing that you should know about craft fairs is that, if you are planning to sell at one, you should try to do so with at least one friend.  Most craft fairs last all day.  You want to make sure that someone you trust is around to fill in for you if you need to go to the restroom, get some lunch or do anything else away from your booth.

You should also keep the weather in mind when planning to do a craft fair.  If the craft fair is indoors that's great.  However, many craft fairs are held outside.  You will want to be prepared with plenty of sunscreen if it is sunny outside.  If there's a possibility of rain, be sure to keep your crafts under a tarp or in a tent. It is also a good idea to be ablt to pack everything up in a hurry if the weather suddenly gets bad.

Also, keep in mind that some types of craft items are better suited to windy weather than others.  If you make items that can get dirty easily or that are light enough to be blown off of tables, make sure that they are displayed securely when you go to craft fairs that are being held outside.

Another good thing to remember is that different craft fairs charge different booth fees.  If you are just starting out, you may want to get into fairly small craft fairs with a lower booth fee until you test the waters to see how well your items sell.  Once you're sure that there is a good market for your items, you can pay more to get into larger craft fairs.

Another good thing to do before you sell at craft fairs is to create a detailed inventory list so that nothing gets lost during the process.  It will also save you a lot of time at craft fairs if you remember to make sure each of your items has its price clearly marked.  If you use removable ties or stickers then, as people buy items, you can save the stickers so that you will have a clear record of what items have sold when you get home.

Finally, when you do a craft fair, bring crafts to do while you're there.  You will, most likely, have some quiet time between customers, so it will be nicer to have something fun to do to pass the time.

Customers will be more interested in your work if they see you making your crafts right in front of them.  Draw people into your booth while having fun at the same time.

Whether indoors or out, craft fairs are always fun.  If you are organized and prepared you will find that you can easily have a fun, successful experience at craft fairs!
